American White Oak Quarter SawnQuercus Alba
Similar in colour and appearance to quarter sawn European Oak. Displays dramatic medullar figuring called flake (or fleck). 'Tyloses' in vascular cells effectively seal the cells as the tree grows making it non-porous, therefore allowing use in wine, whiskey barrels, and boat building. Straight grain restricts shrinkage to board thickness (as opposed to width) minimising warping and cupping, and therefore ideal in flooring, cabinetry, millwork and furniture applications. Good turning and steam bending qualities.
